Kent band Virgin Soldiers have been picked from more than a thousand hopefuls to support top pop rockers McFly at the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone on March 14.

During a three month online competition the band received votes from all over the country, finishing in the top ten and therefore rewarded with the opening slot on McFly’s “Keep Calm and Play Louder” tour.

The news follows an earlier announcement that Virgin Soldiers have been invited to support the legendary Joan Armatrading at the King’s Theatre, Portsmouth later this year.

With both male and female vocals, the six-piece band mixes contemporary with classical instruments.

Acoustic guitar, bass guitar and keyboard combine with violin, viola and cello to produce a set that ranges from high energy songs to harmonious ballads.

The band hopes to repeat the success of a busy 2011, where they appeared at festivals across the country including Kent’s very own Lounge On The Farm.
